Discovering product market fit using a DAO governance framework

Right now DAOs are mainly utilized for fundraising purposes. In the case of DAOs which governs products/protocols with actual utility, they go through a highly centralized phase prior to achieving product market fit before shifting towards gradual decentralization once products/protocols traction and scaling has been achieved.

In this talk, I would like to share how we did the exact opposite by being decentralized from day one and utilizing our governance framework incentivize DAO members to contribute our way to product market fit.

SEE region as a global tech and crypto powerhouse

The tiny Swiss town of Zug is the perhaps unlikely home to Europe’s “crypto valley”: almost 1,000 crypto startups are based in Switzerland, and half of them are in Zug.
But it might now have a contender for the crypto crown.

Crypto startups in Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia are attracting investment from some of the world’s most sophisticated investors, like Andreessen Horowitz, Tiger, and Accel – and that is just the beginning. The ecosystem is finally creating its 1st flywheel effects, “Pay Pal” mafias and IPOs. How have the ecosystem developed and where the SEE region is heading will be the topic of Josipa’s keynote.

Building a career with open source software

Open source contributions will open so many doors for you that you will not believe it. I have seen many people in open source communities who started from scratch and later had a dream job! So, what does it take? Dig into Linux/Kubernetes/ source code? No, not really…

I will give you the insider information about the “professional open source software engineer” concept, the people who work on OSS full time. You will also hear many real life examples from me about how people manage to get a job that they only need to work on an upstream project. I will give tips to not only junior engineers and students, but also senior engineers.

Intersectionality, Diversity and Inclusion: New manager’s guide

If Diversity is being invited to the table, Inclusion means being invited to speak at the table, Equality means not having to wait until others have eaten before you do, then Intersectionality means that people recognize that the table wobbles on your side.

These are important topics for preparing new leaders in the workplace and they are crucial for people’s careers. Having a single focus on one area is an easy option but it can create inequalities for someone else and that is not fair. So, for example, ‘women in tech’ often neglects the experience of women of colour and it becomes exclusive rather than inclusive, creating inequality for someone else. These are not easy topics, but we can learn to look at people on more than just one ‘axis’. We cannot expect people to ‘wait their turn’ to come to the dinner table. Everyone should be invited.

Space is closer than you think: Software Engineering in the Space Industry

Where initially Space was only for large agencies and governments, the last 10 years have seen a NewSpace revolution with the emergence of the private Space Industry, fueled by improved technology and more affordable launch opportunities. The latter has led to a boost in innovation accompanied by a range of new profiles and job opportunities. Software already adopted on Earth is now finding its way on-board satellites bringing new data insights, allowing satellites to perform autonomous on-board processing resulting in new data products for geospatial intelligence for use by the agricultural, urban planning, energy, transportation and other industries.

Tom will present his journey along with the landscape and current developments in the sector which draw parallels with downstream applications, providing insights to participants interested to start or to switch to a career in the Space Industry.

Cybersecurity career roadmap: 2022 Edition

Cybersecurity in software development is often seen as a distant consideration for many individuals, leaving the door open for bugs, critical security holes and suboptimal solutions. That’s been the trend in the industry for many years; developers focused solely on putting a pile of code that barely works and that hackers were able to exploit easily.

In this talk, you will learn why it is essential for software developers to get started in cybersecurity, what the current trends are in this field, and of course, how to get started quickly so you can add new cybersecurity skills to your toolbelt.

A technical interview is one of the most critical factors in recruiting for software engineering positions. However, as an interviewer, I’m still surprised by how a small number of people prepare for a technical interview.

During my presentation, I will share both technical and soft-skills tips to implement before, during, and after the interview to increase your scores. I won’t focus on data structures or specific programming languages, but on general tips easy to implement in all kinds of problems, even just after the talk.
